Tips, Tools & Resources

Tips for a greater chance of success:

  • Protect yourself. Spend the money and time to have an attorney patent your product.
  • Put any patents in your name. Do not assign them to other entities.
  • The stronger the patent, the stronger the chance that a marketing company like Garden Weasel will have an interest in your product.
  • If you are working with limited funds, strong patents might be the best place to make your investment.
  • If the product has already been sold at retail, be sure to tell us about that test.
  • The right name for a product is important, but don't waste time over it. If there's a name you feel must be protected, have an attorney trademark it for you. The success of your product will depend on the program behind it, not the name.
  • Be realistic in your expectations about what financial reward you could receive for your product.
  • Products that solve a problem have a greater chance of success.
  • Products that are unique, have a wide appeal, and are patented have a greater chance of success.
